Abstract

I am proud and honored to launch the inaugural issue of our new academic endeavor – Annals of Psychiatric
Research.
Mental health is an important and often neglected aspect of healthcare in India. Despite the high
prevalence of mental health problems, access to quality care remains a significant challenge for many
people in our country.
One of the major challenges is the shortage of trained mental health professionals. With only around
9000 psychiatrists in the country, the majority of the population has little access to psychiatric care. This
is a significant concern as mental health has been reported to affect approximately one in four individuals
in India.
